For Spring Wow, Plant Now!

Design a succession of spring blooms that will make you proud to look out your window every morning. Spring bulbs are a low maintenance solution for your home or community garden. We will take intimidation out of planning and planting tulips, muscari, fritillaria and daffodils (among others). See which choices are affordable or rare. Get tips on moving or adding to what you already have. Learn how to protect flowers from bunnies, deer and harsh winter storms. Discover the taste and smell of nectar. Find many sources for getting seeds and plants. It's helpful to bring a list or photos of your garden to class.

Students aged 14 and up are welcome to register for this class when a parent/guardian is also registered and attends the same class.

 

Grow the Stinking Rose!

Known as the “Stinking Rose” GARLIC is an easy and fascinating plant to use in dishes from all over the world. The time to plant garlic is now(ish)! I’ll share a little of garlic’s history in America and some of its purported health benefits. Learn garlic anatomy and how to plant garlic for our zone, then harvest parts of it for home cooking throughout the year. Find Regional sources for getting seeds and plants. Each person may sample several garlic varieties and take home cloves to plant or cook.

Students aged 14 and up are welcome to register for this class when a parent/guardian is also registered and attends the same class.

There will be a supply fee of $3 due and payable to the instructor the night of class.

 

Grow More Butterflies

Design a pollinator buffet for your home or community garden to invite pollinators year-round. See which plants attract specific butterflies and their caterpillars. Learn how to protect the pollinators from predators and pollution. Discover the taste and smell of nectar. We will learn about money pollinators, including bees; but, will emphasize in attracting butterflies and hummingbirds. By taking this class, you will also learn where to find regional sources for getting seeds and plants.

Students aged 14 and up are welcome to register for this class when a parent/guardian is also registered and attends the same class.
